The process of letting go
So let’s say that you have a pattern that you want to let go off.

Let say that this pattern is eating a lot of junk food.
You want to stop.

So I’m going to describe the process as best as I can of how you would let go of this pattern of course this is applicable to any other thing you want to let go of.

So in the beginning of letting go the process is started by making a decision and setting this intention of I don’t want this pattern to continue no more.

I don’t want to eat junk food no more.

This is your intention. Now you also have a part of you that wants to keep eating junk food.

This part of you is still alive.

I like to think about it like you are not only one person, but you are multiple persons that live inside of your body.

So In this case you have one person that wants to stop eating junk food, and you have another person that wants to keep eating junk food.

This person that wants to keep eating junk food has been operating for many years his patterns are strong, he thinks about junk food all day long, he has this feelings that drive him to eat all kinds of junk food, when this person is active, the other person, the one that wants to stop eating junk food is not there.

You can also think in terms of clusters of neurons that are firing at any particular time.

Sometimes the clusters of the old personality are active and this means that you are going to think, feel and act like this old personality, you are going to think about junk food, you are going to feel like you really want some junk food and you are going to actually act and move your body to the get that junk food and then you are going to put that junk food in your mouth and eat it.

At other times a different cluster of neurons are going to fire in your brain, this is the new personality, the one that doesn’t want to eat junk food no more, when this person is operating then you are going to think that junk food is bad, or in a more advanced state you are not even going to think about junk food no more, the thoughts about craving junk food, picturing this burgers and fries and ice cream in your mind are not going to fire anymore, because this thoughts are in a different cluster of neurons in your brain that correspond to a completely different person.

The clusters of neurons fire according to your state, or your energy or your level of vibration.

So for example when you are in the zone feeling present to the moment, enthusiastic, energized happy, the new cluster of neurons fire, the old connections with all of the thoughts about junk food don’t fire when you are in this positive high vibration state.

When you are feeling lazy, apathetic, depressed, anxious, or negative the old cluster becomes activated and now you are back to having the junk food thoughts and feelings and actions.
So the process of letting go is to first set this internal intention of wanting to let go of that part of you.

You want that person inside of you that wants junk food to go. You are willing for this person to die basically. He is going to cease to exist. Remember this is like a person he has been living inside of you for many years, probably decades this person this entity doesn’t want to die, he wants to live, so there’s going to be resistance to letting go, because letting go means that this part of you is going to cease to exist.

There’s obvious reasons why keeping eating junk food gives you pleasure, everything that you do gives you some sort of payback, that’s why you do it, maybe is even some kind of twisted payback like for example eating a lot of junk food keeps you feeling numb and this way you are able to scape from taking massive action and going outside of your confront zone.

Maybe you don’t want to face those repressed feelings that you have been running away from all of this years and so you are so afraid of stopping eating the junk food because this means there will no longer be any kind of support for you to go back to when you feel down.

So when you set this intention of letting go. You are going to come up with resistance. A part of you is going to be like fuck this I don’t want to stop eating junk food, eating junk food is delicious, all kinds of excuses are going to pop up as to why you should keep eating junk food, this are the excuses of this part of you this person inside of you that doesn’t want to die.

But the intention of letting go has already been set. You are letting go of this. So now the intention that you set of letting go has to be kept in your mind, and has to be kept strong, the intention of letting go has to be stronger than the intention of keeping eating junk food and everything that gives you.

Also this process is going to require the cultivation of self-awareness.

And lots of it.
The more self-aware you are, or mindful, meaning the more capacity you have to just watch how your different mind patterns fire, (and here by mind I mean your thoughts and feelings). The easier and faster is going to be this process of letting go.

Enlightened people are the most conscious and more mindful people, they have totally disidentify from their minds. They are just the observant presence behind what’s happening. A very unconscious person is completely identified with his mind, there is no space at all between his thoughts and his consciousness.

For example when an unconscious person thinks of ice cream he doesn’t see this thought as just a thought, a pattern of his mind, he sees and feels this thought as him, he is that thought he is a person that wants ice cream, so for a person like this is going to be extremely difficult to watch his thoughts and to be able to stop them.

In this process of letting go you need to cultivate this consciousness, the most powerful way of doing this is taking your attention into your feelings again and again and just allowing whatever you are feeling to be there.
So for example you suddenly find yourself thinking about ice cream you want to eat the ice cream.

First of all, there needs to be a certain level of consciousness already to be able to see yourself thinking about the ice cream, and go: "OH shit! there it is, I’m thinking about the ice cream", but if you are here I assume that that level is already there.

So you become mindful there it is the thought of I want ice cream, there are the images of this delicious ice cream firing in my mind.

You recognize this as a pattern. Is not you thinking it, is your mind or brain firing an unconscious habitual conditioned pattern from the past on automatic.

Then you take your attention and remove it from the thoughts and place it on the feeling.

What are you feeling right now?

And then just feel whatever you are feeling. And allow the feeling to be there. Just observe it or feel it. No thinking.

This stops the loop between thinking and feeling and starts to dissolve this pattern in your mind.

The more that you are able to remain conscious and just hold your attention in whatever you are feeling, the faster the pattern is going to dissolve.

The challenge is that sometimes you get lost in thinking and the feelings are so bad that you cannot stay grounded enough and just accept what is because is just too painful, so you say fuck it, and engage in the pattern, you think I want a burger right now, the feeling is also there very strong, you really want it, and it controls your body, all of the sudden you are frenetically moving to get that burger and there is no stopping you the pattern is active that cluster of neurons is running full gear, you are that person that eats burgers at that moment.

But as you keep cultivating this presence by watching and feeling and allowing, and keeping the intention of wanting to let go of this pattern, you are going to be able to see this and there’s going to be days where you are able to stop the pattern by saying you know what, not today, fuck you, and then the pattern is interrupted and in loses power.

You can see yourself all crazy possessed by the pattern and as you are moving to get the junk food, you are watching, you are feeling the energy that drives this pattern and you are able to stop, and breath and then turn back and find your center again, because you have been training in just feeling the feeling to release it to let it be, to be comfortable feeling this uncomfortable feelings so you are not so afraid of them anymore.

So the time that it takes you to let go is going to depend on how much of this uncomfortable feelings you are able to surrender to.

How conscious can you remain, how present can you be to just notice the thoughts firing and see them as what they are a pattern, and old pattern, NOT YOU, just a pattern that you can let go off.
